Plano Community Garden Guidelines

The Community Garden's purpose is to provide residents of the Plano area an inexpensive place to grow their own vegetables as well as an atmosphere where new friends can be made. The Community Garden also gives back to the community by providing food to the Kendall County Food Pantry. "Come Grow With US!"

If accepted as a gardener, I will abide by the following rules, terms, and conditions:

  1. I will pay a fee of $25.00 per 20' x 20' ft. garden plot.
  2. I will use water only when and where needed and will not allow it to run unattended.( Nor will I allow children to play in water tanks!)
  3. If I must abandon my plot for any reason, I will notify my Row Manager, and, or the Garden Manager in writing.
  4. I will keep weeds pulled in my Garden plot & also half way into the walkway directly adjacent to my garden plot. ( on one or both sides!)
  5. I will keep trash & litter cleaned up from the plot & from adjacent pathways.
  6. I will participate in work parties and the fall clean-up of the Garden. ( Serving 8 hours additional to my Garden plot).
  7. I will plant Tall crops where they will not shade neighboring plots.
  8. I will NOT use fertilizers, insecticides or weed repellents that will in any way affect other plots. ( Some people have food allergies to chemicals)
  9. I agree to volunteer( 8 )hours of volunteer time toward Community Garden Efforts ( I understand this is in addition to my normal gardening plot). This volunteer time is for Cutting Grass, pulling weeds, spreading mulch, weeding Food Pantry Food Plots, Planting Food Pantry Food Plots, Helping New gardeners & teaching youth gardeners.
  10. I will not leave children unattended. ( Children are anyone under 18 years old.)
    I am solely responsible for their behavior as well as my guests.
  11. I will not plant any illegal plant. I will not smoke, drink alcoholic beverages, use illegal drugs, or gamble in the Garden. I will not come to the Garden while under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs. I will not bring weapons or pets or other animals to the garden. I will respect other gardeners and I will not use abusive or profane language or discriminate against others.
  12. If I am able,I will plant extra or garden pantry plots and any excess will be given to the Kendall County Food Pantry each Thursday Morning.
    ( Donations must be in buckets in the shed Wednesday night or B-4 9am Thursday)
  13. I also understand that neither the garden group nor the landowners are responsible for my actions.

Breaking Any rules, terms and conditions is cause for exclusion from the garden and loss of your plot! You will receive ONE verbal warning from a Row Manager or Garden Manager. If no response or correction has been made, you will receive a written notice (or e-mail ) within one week. In one week, two weeks total from your initial verbal warning, if no response or correction has been made, you will receive written final notification that you have forfeited your gardening privileges and plot. At that time, it will be reassigned or tilled in. You will be allowed to reapply for another garden plot only after one year, and only at the discretion of the Garden Manager. This is only in extreme cases, three strikes you are out. You will also not be able to reapply to the garden.

I THEREFORE AGREE TO HOLD HARMLESS THE GARDEN GROUP AND OWNERS OF THE LAND FOR ANY LIABILITY, DAMAGE, LOSS OR CLAIM THAT OCCURS IN CONNECTION WITH USE OF THE GARDEN BY ME OR ANY OF MY GUESTS.
